Hello Nightsleepers,

To start off this week’s overnight update, let’s talk about how great Ryley Walker’s new album Golden Sings That Have Been Sung is.

He came through and played the Empty Bottle a few weeks ago and I missed it, but if anyone has terrible, shaky cellphone footage they recorded that they’ll probably never watch again, send it my way. Just kidding. Also please stop taking cell phone videos at concerts, guy in front of me at Wilco.

Anyway, over the last two weeks I asked you guys what you thought the “Song of the Summer” for 2016 was. And the winner is….

“Wow” by Beck!

Nice pick! I don’t even have to use my powers for evil and override that decision.

This is the part of the blog where I talk about some of the fun coming up:
-Echo and the Bunnymen at Metro this Saturday 9/17
-Margaret Glaspy at the Green Mill Tuesday and Wednesday 9/20 & 9/21
-Glen Hansard at The Vic Tuesday and Wednesday 9/20 & 9/21

And this is the part of the blog where I get a little serious on you and talk about Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Longtime XRT DJ Leslie Witt passed away this summer from Ovarian Cancer. Leslie could not have been kinder to me in my early days at the station. I picked up Saturday mornings from her about 2 years ago, and she gave me nothing but encouragement, enthusiasm, and positivity, even as she was fighting her illness. She is truly an inspiration to all of us at XRT.

We are honoring Leslie this month by taking part in the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s 30 Days of Teal initiative, and selling teal-colored throwback XRT-shirts with the station’s 70’s logo. 100% of the profits of each shirt will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance.

So you get a cool XRT shirt, you make a donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, and you get to help honor Leslie Witt. What are you waiting for? Order your shirt, and find more information on Ovarian Cancer, here.

And when you have your #XRTeal shirt, make sure to Facebooktweetinstagram us so we know how awesome you are. #XRTeal
